The Liver

It is the most important organ which is responsible for metabolism of the body and even for the formation of red blood cells. It filters the waste products and secretes bile juice which gets stored in the gall bladder which is then released to the intestine via the bile duct and the bile juices are mainly responsible for metabolism of fat.

Regulation of metabolism is very much connected with the body's defense mechanism which implies the ability to fight and prevent infections which attack the body.

Improving liver function means improving the metabolism, the blood, the defense of the body.

According to Ayurveda, the dosha which is responsible for liver function of Pitta and it is the same Pitta which is responsible for the action of "rakta" or the blood. To harmonise the Pitta dosha is  equal to regulating the liver function. There are alot of herbal products like "AMRUT", "AMLAKKI", "DHATRI LAUH", "DEVA VATI", "LAVAYASA LAUH".

Any disorder of the liver results in decreased defense function and anemia, irregularity in fat metabolism which implies, obesity, hyper cholesterol, athlesclerosis which in turn results in decreased ciruclation of the blood and heart disorders.

The therapy indicated to balance the Pitta Dosha is Virechana and that will automatically strengthen the liver.

Skin

Skin is the largest tissue in the body. It serves as a protector of the body and it is one of the sense organs. It being a sense organ is because of Vata and complexion of the skin is because of the Pitta dosha. Any imbalance in Vata or Pitta reflects on the skin.

When we say that there is something wrong with the skin it usually reflects in one of these symptoms: 1.itching (mainly because of infections, the itching in scabies is usually very intense mainly in between the fingers and the toes. The itching that presents in any type of fungal infection is also more and occurs mainly in the  skin folds of the body. The fungal infection or taenia or popularly known as the ring worm is characterised by lesions which have central clearance and reddish in the periphery. This fungal infection can affect the area between the thighs when it is known as intertrigo or  in between the arm and the chest.

The fungal infection increases where there is moisture, excessive sweating can aggrivate the infection. The methods to ward off the infection is by increasing the health of the skin (the neem tablets) external applications to reduce infection (triphala churna) and to reduce excessive sweat reduction (done by regulating the Pitta in the body) which can be achieved by eating "Avapattikara Churna".

Burning is also one of the major symptoms and this normally occurs due to imbalance in Pitta. Usually in cases of allergic dermatitis (which is characterized reddish legions which increases on exposure to sunlight.
and having burning as the main symptom.

Again this condition calls for regulation of the Pitta dosha.

Pigmentation

There can be hyperpigmentation which is nothing but blackish patches on skin, especially on the face. Total detoxification of the body by virechana is advised in this condition and for application sandalpaste, nutmeg paste and haritaki paste is recommended. The blackish patch on either side of the nose usually called as the butterfly patch is common in pregnancy and it reduces soon after delivery.

Hypopigmentation or Vitiligo or Leucoderma is because of lack of  melanin pigment. The health of the skin, mainly depends on the metabolism system of the body which in turn depends on the functioning of the liver.

Kidneys

The main organs for excretion increase or decrease in urination, painful urination are the main symptoms relating to the disorders of the kidney. The common disturbance which leads to painful mictruition and reduced urination is the urinary tract infection which could be bacterial or viral in origin associated with fever and rigors. Getting rid of the infection involves flushing the kidneys with enough amount of fluid. Chandraprabhavati and Gokshuradi Goggulu helps in reducing pain and acts as a diuretic and also fights the infection. Reduced intake of liquids increases the concentration of urine as a result of which there could be sedimentation of calcium and oxidate salts which eventually results in renal calculli or renal stones. If the stones gets stuck in the urinary tract then the amount of urination is reduced along with intense spasmotic pain. This condition also requires flushing of the kidneys with enough amount of liquid, thereby avoiding sedimentation of the salts. The other condition that can occur is reddish urination which could be because of  blood in the urine which is denotive of urinary tract infection, glomerulo nephritis and urinary calculli. The reddishness of the urine can be also due to ingestion of the beetroot, the pigment of which colours the urine.

Too much of urination occurs in 2 conditions which is diabetes mellitus and diabetes insepidus. Diabetes Mellitus is because of reduced insulin production which in turn alters the carbohydrate and fat metabolism in the body. Medicines which are meant to regulate the insulin production are prescribed in cases of diabetes and the most popular ones are: Nishamalaki, Chandraprabhavati, Shilajitvati and Neem.

The therapies which are indicated in diabetes are; detox therapies or the panchakarmas. Either of the purifactory therapies can be employed depending on the prakrati of the patient, stress is one factor which can bring about diabetes. In such cases, just relaxation therapies will bring the person to normalacy. Diabetes Insipedus is a condition which occurs due malfunctioning of posterior pituatary gland, the hormone which is secreted in less quantity is AntiDiuretic Hormone (ADH) which is also known as Vasopressin. The therapy which can be employed in this condition is : Nasya and Bhasti which can stimulate the pituatary gland.

Reproductive System

The factors which can lower the fertility in both men and women can be categorised as the stress factor, hormonal imbalance and some defect inherent in the reproductive organs.Depending on the basic cause the medicines and the therapies can be employed. For infertility because of stress, relaxation therapy like abhyanga and shirodhara and marma is very effective and the therapies like Nasya and Bhasti has action both on the reproductive system as well as the hormones. Drugs like Ashwaghanda is helpful in increasing the virility medicines like Palasarpi and Shatavari are uterine tonics and act on the hormones too.

Menstruation when irregular denotes hormonal imbalance or conditions like polycystic ovaries for which medicines like shatavari or aloe is useful. Too much of mensturation or menorrhoegia is because of increased pitta according to ayurveda regulating pitta helps this condition again Shatavari is the drug which reduces Pitta.

Dysmenorrhea is because of imbalance in Vata, the correction either through the panchakarma therapies or medicines like Hingavastaka Churna helps the condition. Amemenorrhoea is again because of hormonal imbalance for which therapies Bhasti and Nasya are useful. It could also be because of reduced nutrition mainly anaemia in which case more support to the liver helps the condition or it could be because of some problem with the ovary or the uterus for which uterine tonics are helpful.
