Haritaki

This herb is known as “Kayastha” which means that which protects the digestive fire.It is a medium sized tree found mainly in deciduous forests and areas of light rainfall.In the south of India, generally the Ayurvedic Vaidyas are identified with this medicinal herb as its effective uses are manifold. Also the word “Harate” means carrying away all diseases.

  Effective uses : Primarily laxative action and carminative

For infections and inflammation of the eyes.

Home Remedies

Haritaki powder (1/2tsp) with warm milk or warm water for constipation
Haritaki powder (1tsp) with milk and paste applied to the skin to reduce hyperpigmentation
Haritaki powder (1tsp) boiled in 50 ml of water for a period 10 minutes and the decoction used to wash the eyes in cases of inflammation.
Haritaki dried fruit rubbed on a stone. 1 pinch paste given for new borns to relieve colic pains.
Haritaki powder (1/2tsp) mixed with honey.  Apply the paste to mouth ulcers.
