Introduction

In Charaka Samhita it is said that a vaidya (‘expert on Ayurvedic Medicine’) has to go to cow herds and shepherds to learn about plants. Thus, it is clear that our understanding of Effective Herbs comes from those who resonate with nature.

Nature is a reflection of the human body, mind and spirit. Thus, healing through the use of Effective Herbs has a direct impact on all layers of our existence.

In order to balance the doshas we utilise Effective Herbs to cure and prevent disease.It is interesting to observe that the external physical characteristics of a herb reflect the characteristics of the disease for which it is used.

Different civilizations have recoginsed this phenomenon labelling it as“doctrine of signature”. For example the leaf of Brahmi is identical with the hemispherical section of the brain, and Brahmi is a brain tonic. The root of Ashwaghanda smells like horse dung and ashwaghanda is used to increase virility in a person and act as a nervine tonic. The root of the herb Manjishta is red in colour and is used for blood disorders.“Touch me not” herb, is named as Lajjalu in Sanskrit which means that which is very shy and this herb is used in gynaecological disorders. Amrut or Guduci is a non-dying plant and grows profusely, and is therefore used as an antiageing and as an immunomodulator. The root of Asparagus (Satavari) has many rhizomes and therefore it is used to improve fertility in females.

In Sri Sri Ayurveda the production of our herbal formulations are UNIQUELY combined with the recitation of mantras. Mantras or “repetitious vibrations” are known to influence our physiology by transmitting vibrations of positive life energy into the body which essentially heals the mind and spirit. Not only that, mantra’s effectively transmit vibrations to the herbs themselves which essentially increases their potency.
