Tulasi

Tulasi or “holy basil” is commonly seen in everyone’s garden in Indiaas it functions to purify the air thereby protecting the Mother Divine. Mythologically it is known to ward off evil and is sacred to Vishnu, strengthening faith, compassion and clarity. Once a year a festival is celebrated in the honour of the Tulasi plant. It is commonly used for cold and coughs.

Effective uses :

Indicated for colds and coughs, strengthening the respiratory system
Improves immunity.
Antiallergic properties and acts as an anti-inflammatory
On application it is useful in skin disorders.
   
 

Home Remedies :

Scabies, boils, itching, dermatitis eruptions and dry skin can be treated by application of Tulasi juice
Cold, nasal congestion, throat infections, dry and productive cough treated with the juice of Tulasi leaves (1tsp) with honey. 
There is a tradition in India to add the leaves of Tulasi to the holy water given in temples.  There is a chant in Sanskrit which is uttered before the holy water is given to the devotees:  “Akala Mrutyu Haranam (that which takes away untimely death)Vishnur Padodakam Pavanam Shubham (that which is obtained from the holy feet of Lord Vishnu, may it purify you and bring good luck)
The roots are used in the beaded chain worn by saints, providing peace and relaxation, and purifying thoughts, mind and body. 
Tooth ache:  by chewing the Tulasi leaves (5-10) and keeping in affected area helps relieve ache. 
Liver disorders:  Consumption of 10-15 leaves with jaggery everyday
Improve complexion:  application of paste of tender leaves of Tulasi to the face everyday, removes pimples and blackheads.
